WHAT IS GAME DAY?

Discovering Careers in Video Games and Digital Arts

“Game Day” is an interactive student conference centered around the video game industry.  Whether or not a student wants a career in video games, our mission is to inspire everyone to pursue their passions and follow dreams.  Leading industry professionals will engage with students about a wide array of topics about this growing industry in San Diego. All CHS 9th, 10th, and 11th graders (students who are in academies) will participate in this event.

Afternoon Interactive Events

All 9th graders will watch “Video Games The Movie” in the afternoon.

CAREER PANELS IN AUDITORIUM:

  • All 10th grade students will all be assigned a career panel time for the afternoon by academy
  • Students will come to the auditorium to hear from 5-8 industry partners who have careers in all aspects of the gaming industry.
  • Panelists will share about their jobs, how they got there, and then take Q&A from student audience.

 

On the registration form, 10th graders will rank the following activities before being assigned to 2 of them :

    1. Virtual Reality Hands on Demos by the UCSD VR Club
    2. FILM: VIDEO GAMES: THE MOVIE
    3. TED TALK: CAN GAMING MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE?
      • In this workshop you will hear from researcher Jane McGonigal about the unique skills that gamers develop and refine through hours of gaming practice that can help us to solve some of the biggest local and global issues. You will have the opportunity to consider if you agree with her perspective and what issues you might try to solve with your epic gaming skills.
    4. AVATAR WORKSHOP: CHARACTER CREATION AND CUSTOMIZATION
      • In this workshop, we are going to learn about some of the games with the best character creation or customization options and then we will try our own hand at creating an avatar or character for ourselves using an online customization avatar customization tool. We’ll start by watching a video from X-One Magazine on the X-box games with the best character customization.

    2. RESUME & INTERVIEW WORKSHOP: JR ACHIEVEMENT CAREER SUCCESS
      • JA Career Success will review resume tips and interview skills, practice mock interviews, and help students develop their elevator pitch. This workshop will be a fun and engaging opportunity to practice and build confidence for future job and career goals.
